Experience Massage Therapy in a Chiropractic Setting

Written By Taschler Spine & Rehab on March 15, 2018

Massage therapy isn't only for relaxation.

While you may associate a massage with a chance to pamper yourself, it may surprise you to know that it is also used in a chiropractic setting.

Chiropractors can use massage therapy to assist in the relief of back and neck pain. Spine Health says that the American Academy of Pain Management acknowledges neuromuscular therapy as an effective treatment for pain in this area.

Spine Health explains that neuromuscular therapy is when the massage therapist applies intermittent levels of intense pressure on the areas of muscle where you are experiencing pain.

You will feel some discomfort from this pressure. However, the pain from the muscle spasm will be relieved, and your muscles will feel less tight one to two weeks afterward.

Therapeutic Massage for Your Back Problems

Using massage therapy for back problems such as muscle tightness and spasm can bring relief. In a chiropractic setting, therapeutic massage is applied professionally to any problem areas you may have.

Medicine Net references a study that involved 64 patients who suffered from chronic neck pain.

All of the patients who participated in the study said that they experienced pain relief and improved functioning when massage therapy was applied to the problem area.

Additionally, a 2008 assessment of 13 clinical trials found positive evidence for massage therapy in relation to low back pain.

Guidelines issued in 2007 by the American Pain Society recommended that physicians use massage therapy and chiropractic when patients with low back pain didn’t respond well to conventional methods.

This is a non-invasive alternative that is beneficial for back problems you are experiencing.
